Hi everyone,
I've had my mortgage now for just over two years a tracker one with britannia, i started making op after reading about them on these forums. When i asked in the building society about op they said it was fine i could pay extra £499 each month, so i did. In january this year i had my statement through and they had added about £600 in early payment fees. Now i am confused, i havent spoken to them yet, has anyone had these charges added and got them taken off. I can remortgage in july 2014, so could help me as i can stay with britannia if they take fees off. Help please.

Hi, that would be so annoying, especially as you made the effort to ask what would happen if you overpaid.
I would get in touch and question this rather than accept it. Most large organisations record telephone conversations, so in a worst case scenario, you could ask them to listen back to what was said; assuming you have an idea of what date you rang them.
Otherwise, I would still argue you spoke to them and were not given full and comprehensive advice. After all, how could you have known the overpayment rate of £499 unless you spoke to someone.
Good luck and keep us posted.Still striving to be mortgage free before I get to a point I can't enjoy it.

I was with the Britannia until recently, and made lots of £499 payments - was never charged a fee for it.
Did you make more than one in a month, anything like that? Does the statement show anything? Mine just show a £499 credit each time.
Best give them a call and find out what's happened.0
