Mortgage redemption payment

We've just recently bought a new house and took out another mortgage with Virgin. They told our solicitor to remove the redemption figure from the final settlement of our previous mortgage completely and I rang to double check there were no outstanding payments on the account which they confirmed (in writing). Now, over a month later, they have rang asking that we pay the outstanding redemption monies - can they do this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

What are you describing as "redemption monies?"

    Early redemption penalty? Final/discharge fee?

A redemption figure is the amount required to settle a mortgage. If the redemption figure was removed as you describe, there would be nothing to pay.

Accurately describing the amount in question and telling us how much you are talking about would be most helpful.
