Hi
After being on long term sickness benefit due to physical and mental health problems, I was offered a job with a friend as Recruitment Consultant.
My health issues are still here, and I struggle daily to manage, I do though...but mainly due to Bedroom Tax and the threat of losing my home, I took the job. I don't discuss my issues with the boss as I know I will be let go, and then what? I really don't want to go back onto benefits, and would love to make a career out of this.
I have been there almost 5 months now, and after putting my all into it, she seems really cross with me. I work all hours, from home too, having no one at home, I will still do tasks at 10pm. I do feel a bit overwhelmed with it as it is new to me, and constantly think about it, putting my life to one side to give myself a better chance of succeeding.
I have spent the day researching the internet, and have got some tasks I can get on with later tonight. She wants a plan of what I intend to do next week.... So a suggestion on how to present this would be a help.
Also, as my probation period is coming up, I am really unsure of what she is going to decide.. What are my options if I am not suitable for her?
TIA

Start looking for a new job, unless you are doing the extra hours to make up for what someone else will do in the average day you are being worked to the bone.Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0

OP do you enjoy the job ?
If not then it sounds like your better off calling it a day, working till 10pm isnt good and possibly not helping with your physical and mental health problems0 -
We all have to do what we can to get by, you can chose, remember you have been there 5 months, you've got this far - if they really wanted rid they may have done this before now
of course the first 2 years (well absolutely anytime in my opinion) is always shaky
Just keep your head down and be seen to be pro-active in doing the job just as your doing it does count for something if your in a results driven post, a lot of managers are under enomous pressure - it may not be you their cross with? x0 -
On the whole I do enjoy it... it is taking some getting used to as I haven't done this type of work before. Could probably do with some more training.
I aren't a 'hungry' recruiter, as the money isn't an issue really. Living alone and being used to benefit money means I am grateful for my salary. Maybe thats why she's in a mood with me..
I think I will go in on Monday with this plan she wants, and if she's not happy then I need to make a decision. Tut, its all unsettling!

Thanks keepcalm. We met a candidate yesterday, and he was so ambitious and driven.. also about 15 yrs younger than me lol.... Maybe I am too laid back!0

I think you need to have a look at what work you do in a normal working day and assess whether its acceptable compared to other members of staff. Be honest, if its not upto par then either you need to improve or you need to move. If it is then either accept the situation or look to move....with working time under your belt you should (but not always) find getting another job easier.Don't trust a forum for advice. Recruitment is usually target driven, is this the case with you?
Often targets are usually unobtainable, and this is often the bane of stress.0 -
Thanks TA. I personally think I am doing a good job, and at the end of the day its the best I can do.. I will spend the day tomor focusing on everything I do, and maybe try to have a chat with boss. Its make or break time0

We are a specialised agency, and only deal with perms, so it is a lot slower than conventional Rec agencies... Also, it is across ALL sectors, so it is a real challenge for me to remember everything.
Like I say, my brain is lazy and old lol0
