:TThat brought back memories of my lovely Grandad who died in 1969.
When asked what he wanted to eat, he would invariably say "Kippers & custard". As a child I could think of nothing worse and one day my Nan actually gave him his breakfast kippers with custard! She didn't dare pour the custard over the kippers though, just put some on the side of the plate. Much to my amazement he actually ate it all, even dipping some of the kippers in the custard.:rotfl:

    Amazing story! :D

I was actually most disgruntled and upset when my mother actually refused to give them to me. Of course, I had no idea what a kipper actually was at the time. The thought of eating it now though... _pale_ :rotfl:

Lunch at grandma's was invariably crumbly Cheshire cheese melted into a pan of hot milk (looked and smelt like vomit) poured over a doostep of white toast. Delicious!

I don't know whether it's the way they process cheese these days or because milk is now pasteurised but I can't get it to go exactly how she made it any more :(

My dad was an only child and my grandparents spoiled me rotten as I was the girl they'd never had. Saturdays, they either took me out for high tea or I went round to their house (no idea where my brothers were??).

Llanelli Market for faggots and peas was a favourite or, at home, bacon, cockles and laverbread or roast breast of lamb or rabbit. I sometimes went for Sunday lunch too and delighted in putting a slice of bread on my empty plate to mop up remains of the gravy. I remember my mother making sarky remarks (privately of course;)) that nana's gravy was too salty and fatty but I adored it.
  • When my mum had gone to bed, my Dad would slice up a couple of potatoes and shallow fry them in a pan. We'd sit and eat his 'posh chips' watching terrible midnight films, with a bit of leftover Chinese curry sauce to dip them in.
Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

the first time we had a burger in a bun, we ate it with a knife & fork - everyone did until McDs came along :)

Your story reminded me of when I was a teenager and would sometimes wake up in the night to the smell of fried eggs. I used to creep down to the kitchen to find my Dad making himself a fried egg sandwich! Happy memories of Dad and me sitting on the kitchen stools scoffing fried egg sarnies with ketchup at 3am while Mum & my brother slept upstairs oblivious to the culinary delights in the kitchen below. :)

battered chips and Frizzets, Frizzets was a packet of powder that was mixed with water I think, then dropped into a hot frying pan for a couple of minutes

  • Has to be chocolate crunch with pink custard.

We also use to have a picnic tea in front of the TV on Sunday nights after a bath. We use to sit in the living room in our dressing gowns watching bulls eye.
