Hello
My partner has split from his wife and when he left he was handed 16k worth of debt.
this debt was originally paid via her bank account as she was in control of all the money including his wages. (he wasnt even aware of these debts but thats another story!)
the detbs he has are:
Barclaycard cc - 1500
hsbc cc- 3500
sainsburys loan- 7500
mint cc- 3500
he left in the april and she stopped paying these debts. come late july he starts to receive nasty letters and threats of ccj's ect.
now beggining of september sainsburys and barclaycard have both registered defaults again him and these debts have been passed over to other companies. barclays has been passed to what looks like another part of their company and sainsburys has been passed to alboiny? up in leeds.
mint have requested a summery of all his outgoings and havent sent any nasty letters this month. hsbc call every single day trying to get him to pay something.
my partner has looked at a iva but doesnt have 100£ a month left over. each month he is getting more and more in to debt, without paying debts and the mgt on there property he is already minus 58£ each month.
I really am unsure of what to advise him to do now? how do we minimize the damage to his credit score and try to avoid a ccj?
many thanks

I found myself in the same position when my husband left me. I wrote to all credit companies and explained that I was experiencing financial hardship and asked them if they would accept repayments of £1 per month. It's not ideal and my credit report is shot to shreds but at least I'm surviving some shape.
Good luck12/04/2019

Actually this is the whole story, if his ex took out this credit, in his name, without his knowledge or approval, then that is fraud, he should report this to the police, and inform all the creditors involved of the situation, if this is the case he may not be financially responsible for the whole amount, am unsure of the legal position but I suggest he gets some professional advise on this as soon as possible.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
