Old style student loan and turning 50

I have a friend in similar circumstances and have just posted in Student MS. I'll copy the post here if I may;
"Hi, I need some advice for a friend who has just turned 50.
In 1995, at the age of 30, she started a degree course which she completed 4 years later, financing the course by means of a student loan.
She has been deferring payment due to not earning enough to have to make repayments, and has recently received the deferral application letter for the coming year. However, it is our understanding that the loan is wiped at the age of 50. What is the best way of dealing with this? Inform Erudio? Apply for deferrment and then inform them of the 50 up once recieved, or do nothing?
Any advice or experiences gratefully received.
Ta."

Hi all,
I took out a student loan as a mature student between 1994 and 1997. My earnings ever since have not been enough for me to start repaying the loan. I'm 50 in May- I've read that the loan can be cancelled at 50. How do I go about this?0
