Hassle with Rockwell Debt Collectors

I had a phone call at the weekend from Rockwell who did not have my current address of 2 years or my married name informing me I needed to set up a repayment plan for VERY catalogue as the debt had been passed to them.

I did hold an account with VERY in 2008 which I am absolutely convinced was paid off and shut down.I would not have left a debt for years unpaid and moved house I have done it on none of my other debts!

I have had no paperwork or calls from Rockwell or VERY since the account was closed in 2009 (to my knowledge)

VERY are saying they can give me no further info on my account as it was sold to ARROW GLOBAL in 2011. Yet I have never to this day been contacted by ARROW. All they can say is the amount I owe is 336. When my credit limit was 300 and according to them im in arrears for 307. So the figures do not add up to start with. Along with the fact ROCKWELL is not who bought the debt. Ive been given a department at VERY to ring who sold the debt but obviously only open 9-5 mon-fri. Rockwell I ring and no one ever picks up and require me to leave my details and number on an answer machine. And Arrow also only open 9-5.

Rockwell are expecting a repayment amount from me in the next few days. But I don't want to pay until I have evidence.
Because I am really sure this was paid.

Can anyone help please?

Arrow don't usually chase the debts they buy directly, but instead employ an agent like say Rockwell to do it for them. So that could well be what is happening here.

But no, there is no way you should ever take the word of a debt collector that something is owed.

You need to get back on to Very and get them to give you a breakdown of what they think was owed and how it accrued. Nonsense that they can't give you this info.

Should Rockwell/Arrow write to you, then you demand the same of them of them, as likewise they should already have this info or can get it from Very.

Perhaps the most important thing for you is have they trashed your credit file with a default and arrears? Have you checked them recently?

And never speak to them on the phone, do everything in writing then you have a paper trail, as these companies are not beyond denying conversations took place :money:
