Anyone refused Barclays basic account?

Hi
Ive been active on the DMP support thread. I've recently started a dmp with stepchange and they have advised me to get a new bank account as my current bank will be one of my creditors. Ive called the co op twice to send me an application pack both havent arrived and time is running away with me for the deadline to change my account details at work. I live in the sticks so not much choice when it comes to banks but there is a Barclays about 20 miles away. my plan is to go into the branch on Monday or Tuesday and set up an account. It will just be the basic account so no overdraft etc. I know I will be refused a current account because of my credit report but has anyone ever been refused a basic account because of bad credit? Also should I tell them that im going into a dmp? I dont think Barclays are associated with my currrnt bank - RBS? Sorry if the questions sound daft ive got so much running round my head at the moment
thanks for any replies

People who are currently undischarged bankrupt can get the basic Barclays account, so you should have no trouble.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Just make sure none of your other debts are associated with Barclay's as well.
I'm sure that for a basic account they don't do a credit check which is why they're best for people like you and me!0 -
I think I may have just found the account, I've been looking for. :cool:0

Thanks for all your replies. I have had a quick look and I don't think Barclays are associated with RBS so I think they may be the way to go. Thanks again

Are all your debts just with rbs? If any debts have anything to do with Barclay's eg credit cards, loans then best not to use them for your bank account as they could still take your money to pay off the debts.
Good luck with it!0 -

I don't think coop are accepting new cashminder accounts anymore, I read it somewere last month that because they and Barclays were the only banks offering basic accounts, they had an unfairly large share of the market and wanted the other banks to offer more people basic accounts, and until that happens they would not offer basic accounts anymore, your ok if you already have one though.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Cashminder is still available: http://www.co-operativebank.co.uk/currentaccounts/cashminder
They did stop offering it to people undischarged from bankruptcy, which may be what you are thinking of?Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
