Skylanders help please

Our son turned 6 the other day, and ended up getting money in most of his birthday cards, today he's come home from school raving about skylanders and this is what he wants to spend his money on.

My question is do we need to connect to the Internet to play this or can he use it off line, only we have now got rid of broadband?

I'm sure it can be played offline, my eldest son plays on it regularly!

There could well be online content but you don't have to be connected to the internet to play it as far as I'm aware.

Skylanders Spyros Adventures and Skylanders Giants is an offline game if you buy it for a particular console (Wii, PS3, XBox). There is something called Skylanders Universe that is online. The new Skylanders Swap Force comes out next month - don't know how that works but I'd be surprised if it requires internet access as you buy the version for your console just like with the previous versions.

So does the portal connect directly into the xbox360?

I have it on the Wii and that was never connected to the internet.

The portal connected wirelessly for the Wii, not sure about other consoles though.

Skylanders swap force is out soon, so once that's released it'll be a lot harder to get the old characters. My advice is to wait and get that. And no, it doesn't need an internet connection. The first skylanders game connected the portal via bluetooth usb so batteries were needed. The second game, Giants, connected with a lead, so a lot better. The new game has jumping characters, which you can't do in previous versions. Hth

We have it on the PS3 and it connects directly into a USB port, I assume the Xbox version is just the same.

You do not need internet connection for skylanders. There have been two different games so far and second game used all of first games figures. Third game due to be released and has interchangeable heads and bodies. Previous figures will also seemingly work on the newest portal. As new game due in October I think you might find you get second game considerably cheaper, or even as second hand in shops. Agree with post that said older figures may get hard to come by but the new interchangeable figures sound brilliant. If your son happy to wait for new game you could pre-order it online..cheapest I found was A*da online order with free delivery and limited edition Hex figure as well as figures that are in package.
