Transfer of equity

Hi all

Just a quick question. I am transferring my share of the property to my son for £1. He has had the document and had it witnessed and I now just need to post it off. We paid the OR rep £212 to do their side of it and I just wondered if I need to get a solicitor to do anything on our behalf ? The letter says that we have "chosen not to have legal representation" but we didn't state that. My IP said a few months back that I would need my own solicitor so I am confused. Would it be an idea to see someone before I post it off or is that really neessary ? I have been told that I can have the equity transferred back to me - is that the reason for legal rep ? Do they do that bit for me ?

Thanks

    Hi Sweeper,

I think it's always best when you're dealing with property to make sure everything has been done properly and there's nothing that could come back to haunt you. If it was me I'd definitely want to use a solicitor, they're never cheap but it will give you peace of mind.

    Regards

    Thanks for the reply Richard

I just rang the OR office and spoke to the person dealing with the transfer. He told me that it was up to me if I wanted to get legal advice but it was not necessary. He said that they have to advise me to see a solicitor by law but if I do it will cost me money that I needn't spend. I think if it involved more equity rather than the £1 then I probably would see someone but as long as it goes through to my son I'm not going to bother.

This info might help someone out that's in the same situation anyway.

    Cheers
