  • • Really seriously thinking about buying some indoor clothes airers instead of using the tumble dryer this winter – is it worth it?

Husky, we live in an apartment so an aired is a MUST for us as we don't have a garden... We bought an AMAZING aired from @rgos over a year ago and I really don't know what we'd do without it...
It opens 4 ways and is on castors so you can move it around easily... There's 40m of usable drying space and you can cofigure it to hang shirts etc which minimises ironing too... it wasn't the cheapest to buy at £30, but we only ever use that one as it will hold 3 loads no problem... A very worthwhile investment and I reckon a big money-saver on the tumble-dryer which we didn't have room for when we moved!

    Try: http://www.argos.co.uk/m/static/Product/partNumber/8500368/Trail/searchtext%3ECLOTHES+HORSE.htm

I'd second Ally's comment about trying elsewhere for a cheaper price though!!

Wow, didn't realise it was possible to be so passionate about a bl**dy airer!?! Geek alert!! :rotfl: Anyway, hope that helps :) xxx

  • Thanks for the thread Ally!

HUSKY - we've never owned a tumble drier, work outdoors, live with two smelly dogs and smelly kids - I've now got a 17 year old and a 19 year old and I live in the windy wet north. I'd say airers are the way forward - although circulation is key! (we've always lived in drafty houses too :)) good luck!

We did move into a house with one and I used it a couple times, I can see why they are addictive - so we asked our landlords to take it out.

Funniest thing was when DS went to uni last year - and he saw the tumble drier. He'd never used one and after a month went back to air drying in his room.

The only thing we do differently from summer to winter is use fabric softener as it helps the clothes to stay fresh - but older better MSE'rs than me will tell you that vinegar also does the trick.

I use an airer for little things - a sock hanger in the airing cupboard for littler things and coathangers for shirts etc things that want to be hung nicely.

Tops of doors (with those hook things) are good too. Hung up at ngiht things are often dry in the morning.

Ok so it looks a bit like widow twankies some days - but its free.

    Hellllllllllllllllllllllllllo

    How are you all.

I'm good and tired just done a stint on the van

    Today
    Banks - are wages cleared?
Store meals - brekkie and lunch so far munched
    Bit cleaning
    More work
Nice free walk somewhere enroute to jobs today
    Check Cc's
Recycling - save the planet and all that.

Hoping for a NSD as the grocery challenge is going well aside needing things like washing up liquid, more dog food and pot scrubbers. No wonder we normally spend £200 a month...............................EEK!

*See if I can free up some 'spends' for our camping trip......mr f just emailed me from work to say we're not £243-35 down on the petrol money he's owed, we're actually £455-10 down, as it's always paid a month in arrears & due to some piece of BH slackery we're now TWO months in arrears.

    Oh noooo. Terrible timing.

  • Thanks for all the responses guys! I have to confess, I am completely addicted to my tumble dryer - my mum gave it to us for free as she prefers indoor airing during the winter and found she was using it as a storage table in her outhouse.

@ShootForTheMoon - if I was going to get an indoor airer, that would be the sort I'd be looking for. I need a large one rather than lots of little ones here, there and everywhere.

I shall let you all know on tomorrow's update if I decide to go ahead and resist my tumble dryer addiction.

In other news - the hubby is indeed cooking dinner but not pasta :D

I've got one of those heated airers - bought it when we lived in the small flat - but it just seemed to expel hot damp air - not v good for the flat. I might resurrect it though and see what it's like now we've got more space.

Either than or sell it second hand...

Is this weekend the weekend to tackle the utility room?!!! Never really got v far with it last weekend.

    xx
