Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming ~ WOO HOO what a ride!

Jelly as in jelly and ice cream is different to jelly like a clear jam. You can make either with your blackberries.
The other thing to do though, is simply to pick and freeze them if you have been buying them!0 -
I made these with my foraged blackberries the other day. Really yummy.

My favourite way of eating berries is in smoothies, with a banana and some almond milk (or dairy or soya milk, whatever you like). I just blend them up and drink through a straw. Other nice thing to make for a treat with a cuppa is some simple fruit pastries: cut a sheet of frozen puff pastry into squares, score a line about a centimeter in all round the edge, put the berries in the middle, and brush some beaten egg round the border so they brown nicely. Just pop in oven till the pastry looks done. Really delish and couldnt be simpler.0

Blackberries and raspberries can be easily bottled in syrup. I found the recipe in a Readers Digest book and discovered that berries lasted several years bottled in this way:
You need 2kg fruit (soft berries only - blackberries or raspberries - because other fruits are too dense to be preserved properly by this method). Wash and (gently) dry the fruit.
You then make a syrup from 1 litre of water and 600g sugar (dissolve the sugar in the water and boil until it begins to get thicker and syrupy). Add the fruit to the syrup and simmer for 2-3 minutes.
Sterilise and heat the jars and lids just like you do for jam. When the fruit has simmered 2-3 mins, take it out with a slotted spoon and pack into the hot jars.
Bring the syrup to the boil and pour it over the fruit in the jars. Put the lids on the jars straight away while it is hot and leave it to cool.
That's it.
In this way my DH can enjoy blackberry cobbler all year round!!

Last year we made Blackberry Vodka. I used the method from Phil Brown's "Badger Bushcraft" Blog:
You need a 70cl bottle of vodka (a cheap supermarket brand is fine), 100g of caster sugar and lots of fresh blackberries.
Remove one third of the vodka, and store for later use (I used it to make a small bottle of this) Add the 100g caster sugar (dissolves quicker than granulated). Fill the bottle with the washed and dried fresh blackberries. Replace the cap and give it a good shake.
Place in a cool dark cupboard occasionally shaking it to agitate the fruit and make sure all the sugar has dissolved (I did this every few days).
After a couple of months, have a taste; add sugar if you want it a bit sweeter (how much depends on how sweet the blackberries were). Leave to mature a bit more.
When ready to drink – strain through muslin and the decant it back into a clean bottle. (The soaked berries make a great topping to ice cream).
The colour turns into a beautiful cranberry colour (perfect for Christmas). If you make this in September, it’s ready for giving as Chrissie presents (that was our original plan but it was so delicious we drank the lot !)0 -
easy Jam recipe
4 pounds of soft fruit (Blackberries, raspberries, strawberries or a combination).
2 pounds of granulated sugar
2 lemons
wash the fruit and put in a LARGE saucepan. grate the rind of the lemons and add to fruit, squeeze all the juice out and add that too.
bring to a boil and simmer til the fruit is soft. add the sugar and stir on a LOW heat until it is dissolved (you will 'feel' that the gritty sugar has dissolved), now turn the heat up and boil the fruit for about ten minutes. see if its at setting point by putting a small amount on a plate or saucer and put in fridge for a minute -when it comes out, if you push the 'jam' and it wrinkles up and doesn't run back - its at setting point and you can pot it in clean warm jam jars! if it isn't at setting point then boil for a few minutes more and try again.0
