Wedding venues not showing VAT in their prices

Options
Are they allowed to do this? Given that 100% of their customers are the general public and not businesses, I thought it was a legal requirement.

Finding out that the price they're quoting is actually going to cost 20% more months down the line seems really dishonest in my opinion, but I want to be sure before quoting the law at them...

but surely the easiest thing would be to ask the question when you enquire the price..."and does that include VAT."...OR are you asking this now because you forgot to ask that question and now wonder why your invoice quotes a VAT rate?

Just as a seperate point many wedding venues also offer corporate packages so I probably disagree with your comment over being 100% general public as customers.

We got married in 2011 but as I recall all the quoted prices all stated £XX + VAT at the current rate. We were in the point in time where the VAT rate changed from 17.5% to 20% so we did a ring round to all our vendors before the new rate came in to ask them to absorb the extra cost for us - some did some didn't ;)

    I've been Money Tipped!
All it takes is a simple question... "is that inclusive or plus VAT"... how hard is that?

Instead, you want to quote the Law and make a big fuss???

Haven't you got better things to do?

But 100% of their customers aren't members of the public so you're entire point is moot. Just ask.

Anyone selling to the public must show VAT

Have you not got better things to do than come on a forum, take time to reply to a thread you have no useful information for, and completely miss the question that was asked in the thread?

At least I've got a reason to be posting.

Do you know the law when it comes to displaying prices including VAT?

Let me save you time in finding out: you don't.

And I love how there are people TELLING me that this venue also does corporate events.

    Laugh out loud.
  • We asked our venue is there nothing else to pay on that price (as it was so cheap) and they said no and I have it in writing :)

    QUOTE]

They have to charge you the VAT if they are VAT registered.

They do not have to include it in the price.

Anyway, at 20% it's not exactly difficult to work out! £10k + VAT = £12,000!
