Tickets to races? I live near a racecourse (not a posh one!) and they sometimes come up on groupon, especially when it is also a concert. I know my husband has put some money on on-line at a bookies for him to spend when he wants to bet (usually on the outcome of football matches!) but howyou do it, I've no idea. You could ask on the betting forums on this site, if no one can explain on this thread. As the shops get their Christmas stock in I reckon they'll be horse themed items. Last year Boots did a horse shaped soap. I know cos I bought it in their 75% off sale and have it stashed for DD's stocking.:rotfl:

If you go for a races hamper, I'd include some alcohol for them to have a tipple before the races, the price of drinks were astronomical when we went!
  • You can buy virtual horse racing on DVD. They have several races on them and often come with betting slips and pens (my mum works for a betting shop and they hold virtual racing nights in pubs for charity). Debenhams usually sell them during the crimbo season, but maybe amazon would have some? Also if budget allows, I have seen horse racing games similar to thoseat an amusement arcades. I believe they sold the at mankind and firebox last year.
They are great for a family night in.

You could add a couple of bottles of beer or wine. Maybe some munchies.

Or if he goes and watches the races you could make an hamper of nice pen for making his bets, hip flask for a sneaky tipple, wallet for his winnings, hat scarve and gloves to keep warm.
You can buy a little machine which will predict the winner of the race i don't know how much it would cost (I saw it on storage wars lol, but it was cheap,) maybe amazon again?

  • The Daily Mirror used to have a racing diary with the dates for the coming year. I'm not sure if they still do, but it might be worth looking out for.

We got tickets to a race meeting one year together with a table top wind up horse racing game, the horses still make an appearance after Xmas lunch, the kids love it.

I made one for OH last year, from what I can remember it had this: http://m.tesco.com/mt/www.tesco.com/direct/university-games-really-nasty-horse-racing-game/208-2615.prd, a nice pen and small pad (they make lots of notes), a DVD of outside bet and tickets to Aintree using john smiths bogof promotion, http://www.johnsmiths.co.uk/promos/bogof/. Think that was all of it. HTH :)
