Santander - underwrite criteria

I won't bore you with the whole story! I was just wondering whether anyone knows the criteria Santander underwriters use to assess your application. I've looked on their website and it doesn't appear to be anywhere. Basically, I may have to pay £1,600 (because of the LTV), but have been told that even if I pay this the underwriters may still decline my application (I have passed the initial credit check and affordability check). When I said that I wanted to know what their criteria was before paying that sort of money, the adviser told me he didn't know. Very helpful.
What makes this so frustrating is that I already have a mortgage with Santander - all I want to do it remove my ex partner from it and put my new one on, which obviously requires re mortgaging!
I am so frustrated with how unhelpful they are being!
Thanks

Underwriting criteria is a sensitive commercial decision so is never published. In reality this will be set at a high level within the lender, and will move in accordance with the lenders desire to increase or reduce lending, the objective level of acceptable risk , and the target market at the current time. So there's no one size fits all so to speak.0
