Some help dealing with the Lowell Group

Options
Hi my dad took out a catalogue in my name and after moving into my flat have rec a 2 letters from the lowell group asking me for the money.I have spoken with my dad and he has agreed to repay it but with being on benefits cannot afford a lot.My question is how do i approach lowell about it im willing to sort it out as if it was my debt but fear the repayments may be more than he can afford, saying that i dont have a lot of disposable income either. The first letter stated i owed £1564 and the second letter offered a 10% reduction if i got in touch within ten days but as i dont really know how to go about it that offer has expired.Do i write to them and just make an offer as id prefer everything in writing if so what do i put in the letter.I do know i could report my dad for fraud but 90% of the debt was used for us kids so reporting him isnt a route i could take.Any help appreciated.

Write to them and offer them a monthly repayment you can afford (or dad can afford).

As you don't want to report him then I would make no mention of him in your letter to them. Ask them for their bank details so you can pay either by standing order or pay them directly each month.

At first they will likely say you need to pay more than you have offered and may threaten court action but keep making the payments you have offered and don't be bullied in to paying more than is affordable.

I was with lowell (still am) as well with a default with Very - if you can stand it - keep waiting - eventually you'll get a letter offering you the chance to set up a direct debit at a 'reasonable' rate of 30 quid per month -you can set it up yourself on their website. I did this and I'm still on monthly payments now - no problems.

So if you can stand it and you can't do the 10% off offer - keep waiting! :)

    Hope that helps

  • Hello Sadsac1

I was with Lowell for a catalogue debt, finished 3 mths back :) All I have to say is I found them very easy to deal with but you must stand firm with them. Ring them to set up your payment but insist that its £30 per month, they will ask for more but stand your ground :)

    Good luck xx
