Past Due Credit & Natwest

I've had another debt creep out the woodwork that im not 100% sure how to deal with
Had a generic letter from past due credit with the usual stuff.
Client is Natwest and i owe £1050 or thereabouts.
I had a bank account with Natwest around 4 years ago give or take and i cant remember any of the details on it except that the overdraft limit was £250 or £300.
How is this now £1k other than someone getting over excited with charges in my abscence.
Who should i contact first? past due credit or natwest?
Had a call from past due credit yesterday but told them to foxtrot oscar until i decide what to do.

Thanks

    Hi and welcome

I would send past due the prove it letter. They should be able to send you proof you owe the debt, proof of the balance and proof they have a right to collect it.
Letter when you know nothing about about the debt - AKA "Prove it" letter
A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who give
or "It costs nowt to be nice"
  • Im fairly confident i owe the money, it's just the scale of it thats shocking.
Would it be worth asking natwest what there playing at?

    Hi,
I would, the DCA will have to refer back to NatWest anyway, it would be preferable to deal directly rather than have to deal with past due, ask for a statement that details all activity since you last checked it, that will show you what they are claiming you owe, if you disagree, complain to them, that in itself will automatically put your account on hold, until the complaint is dealt with, if they have charged you excessively and wont refund you, complain to the financial ombudsman service, its free, and they will look at your case impartially.
