    Dear Diary

I haven't been around for a while, forgive me but I'm feeling rather sorry for myself at the moment and in need of a little moan so apologies in advance.

I was late into work this morning as I had a hospital physio appt and ended up having to park in the basement of the car park which is rather dark and poky, I make no excuses it was entirely my fault but somehow I managed to scratch the wheel arch of the car in the next space whilst trying to park my car, I did the right thing and left a note and the car owner telephoned me later, they were very nice about it and appreciated the fact that I bothered to leave a note as many wouldn't but I am absolutely gutted. I have £400 in my emergency savings fund which I could be needing soon, I think my insurance excess is around £350 so I'm inclined to suggest getting a couple of quotes and settling it privately. The irony is I usually work from home on a Tuesday but came into the office because things are so busy at the moment - talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time :(

I know things could have been a lot worse, no one was hurt (apart from my pride) it's just a bit of scratched metal but I worked really hard to save that money.

    Bet.

Thanks GunWharf I guess that is what an emergency fund is for after all, I wouldn't mind but I only drive a teeny tiny Peugeot 107.

    Dear Diary

Trying to look on the positive side the good thing that has come out of my prang on Monday is that until I know how much repairs to the other car will cost I am terrified of spending any money.

I'm very relieved that I do have a small emergency fund otherwise I would have had no option but to fund any repair costs with my credit card. My moneysaving hat is now firmly back on and building this fund up again will be my first priority once things are resolved, as well as getting back to busting the debt of course.

  • Hi Bet,

Sorry to hear about your car! Glad you had some money saved though to cover repairs, so much better than putting it on a CC.

Have you checked out the Debt-Free Wannabe Challenges board?? Definately worth a browse, there will be something there to motivate you even further for sure!

The beauty of this forum is that so many of us are in the same boat at the mo - trying to watch our money, save, become debt-free...there's always someone here to chat to!!

Best of luck, keep on keeping on!

    Thanks Skinty

I've had a go at a couple of the challenges before, I think it was the No Spend Days and Taking Lunch to Work ones, I shall definitely check out the board again as this latest incident has given me a bit of a boot up the backside, I've been growing a bit complacent lately and have been giving myself a few too many 'treats'

    All the best

    Hi Bet,

Really sorry to hear about your car but great news that you had emergency money saved and don't need to dip into a credit card. We are saving for a house deposit (as well as trying to pay off debts) and it feels weird to have savings. It is the first time I have saved in about 11 years but it is a great feeling to know there is a buffer there.

    Hi Clearmydebts

Good luck with saving for your house deposit , I remember doing that, it's a struggle but that feeling when you finally get the keys is fantastic. Have you checked out the house renting/buying/selling board there's some good information there.

I'm still waiting to hear how much repairs are going to cost, am keeping my fingers crossed it won't be too bad but I'm trying not to worry - what will be will be.

    Have a great weekend

    Dear Diary

Where did the weekend go, it only seems like five minutes since it was Friday evening and here I am thinking about work tomorrow.

Money saving wise it's been quite a good weekend, yesterday I spent £5 on my zumba class and about £34 at the supermarket, not bad. Today I have spent the grand total of £0 :j I've spent most of the day painting woodwork (it has to be said my DIY skills definitely have room for improvement) and very nearly rewarded myself with a naughty beef curry and chips from the takeaway but settled for some home made chicken pasta bake I found in the freezer:)

Hope everyone has had a good weekend

    Dear Diary

I'm afraid today has not been a good day, still struggling with my neck and shoulder pain I'm beginning to wonder if it will ever get better. My dodgy wisdom tooth has also flared up again, at the moment I resemble a chipmunk and have raging toothache/headache which is only relieved by rinsing my mouth with strong rum (trying not to swallow too much) and painkillers.

I just checked my bank account online and I have messed up my calculations big time and I have about £100 more going out than I thought:eek: I think it is something to do with a Barclaycard refund last month anyhow the sums definitely add up and it is not good news so some serious belt tightening is called for, thank goodness all the bills have been paid, don't think I'll mention it to OH he is meticulous with his sums and it would only end up in a heated discussion, I know I've messed up but really don't need to hear about it chapter and verse right now.

    Oh we'll onwards and upwards
