debt collector visiting home address?

Today a gentleman turned up at my home address and asked for *my maiden name*. Didn't say who he was or what he wanted and had a small brown envelope and a printed piece of paper (I couldn't read what was on it). I said there was no one with that name living here. He asked if that is what the previous occupier was called and I said I didn't know. He ticked something on a piece of paper and left.. would this likely to have been a debt collector? I do have several debts in my maiden name that I am currently paying off through a payplan DMP so really they have no reason to contact me. If it was a DCA.. what will likely happen next? Will I get into trouble for not confirming who I am? Im really worried now as im at home alone with my 2 small children :-(

Its possible it could have been a debt collector.
No you won't get in to any trouble for not confirming who you are.
As to what will happen next, possibly nothing, possibly you will get a letter in the post (maybe saying one of your debts has been passed to a new debt collector for example).
Don't worry about being home alone, debt collectors can do nothing to you other than knock on the door. If they call again just tell them to leave and to send anything they want to say in the post.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Maybe check your credit report to see if any debts have a new owner.
As Tixy says, they can do nothing. Just tell anyone who calls to go way and write if they wish to contact you.
If you feel threatened, call the police.:beer:0
