Photographer - Too cheap???

Hi everyone
Is £249 for a photography package TOO cheap? Can't find any reviews online for the photographer but I really like the pics on his site and we aren't looking for a massive package, just photos of the main parts, all on a disk with copying rights. Worried that the price reflects the quality as he says he's experienced.
Any chance anyone has used them before?

I haven't used them but for our photogrpaher we paid £400 which included a disc with photo's on which were copyright free, a photo story DVD and a 40 page album.
Does he have a facebook page that you could maybe's look at?0 -
Think this may be the facebook page:

Hi
I'm a wedding photographer but based in the midlands. I've had a look at the website you linked and think they're providing good value for money.
£249 for covering just the ceremony with pics after sounds like a good deal.
The standard of photography is very good and I've checked some of the images on the website and it seems like all their own work unlike some of the cheaper photographers who steal other people's images and pass them off as their own.
If you like their images and price point then I'd certainly arrange an appointment to meet them. Ask them to show you at least three full wedding albums so you get an idea of how your entire day will look, not just the few 'best' images over the last few years that will be on their website.
Good luck0 -
Thanks for the advice everyone!
I had originally thought it was good deal because I'd been struggling to find one within my budget but then I started doubting myself, as you do
Going to take your advice gadgeteer and contact them, detail what I want and ask for a quote. If the quote comes out at the same kind of price as is on his page then I will arrange an appointment.
Any other questions I really need to ask a photographer?
Thanks x0 -
He's already answered a lot of the questions on his website's FAQ's.
If I were in your shoes I'd probably have a good think about the style of photography you'd like. Many of his photos on his website are posed in one way or another. Are you happy with this style or would you prefer a fly on the wall type of photographer?
Personally I find virtually everyone says "Oh yeah, i like the natural photos the best" but if I get them to find me five photos they love, I bet you they'll be posed.
The key thing is to look at several albums. The photographer you've linked seems experienced so he should definitely have several printed albums. I recommend this rather than flicking through a tablet. Photos look totally different in a professionally designed album.
Check with the photographer that you get the high res photos on disc with a license to print. (often known wrongly as copyright free). This means you will be able to print them out yourself and give copies to friends/family. Sometimes certain photographers will give you a low res version or worse still just a slideshow then charge you £££ for the actual disc.
Ask them what happens if they are ill? Who's responsible for finding cover? Some have clauses saying that they are not responsible. Others such as myself will take the responsibility on to substitute even if it ends up costing me more.
Lastly be clear what you are paying, when you are paying and what happens if you have to cancel for whatever reason.
Hope that helps0 -
Maybe have a look at this website http://www.sub500.co.uk/ and see how they compare for your region? As him for references via Facebook and speak to previous clients.0

Hi Mellypoos, did you ever arrange an appointment to meet with EDI Photography? I contacted them at the beginning of the week as I was interested in their packages. Just awaiting an email back to confirm when I can go and view their work.
Just wondered how you had got on and if you had decided to go with them?0 -
Our tog was only £350, stayed from ceremony to first dance and provided discs of hi-res images. When we meant to meet him he was definitely the most professional, moreso than other people charging more money.
One thing i'd definitely second gadgeteer on - check that the ones you'll get on disc are the hi-res ones (and what they mean by hi-res). I saw many websites that said "photos on disc suitable for the web", which means they won't be very good for printing, let alone enlarging. Those tend to charge a lot more for a hi-res copy.0 -
Hi clarabell,
We did go and see him and have now booked with them. They were a really nice couple and both cover the wedding. Had lots of wedding shoots to show us, we spent about an hour just looking through photos. Paul who is the main photographer was really knowledgable too and made us really think about the space that we have at the venue and how that might affect the shots we can and can't get but they seemed up for anything we wanted as long as it was possible.
You get the hi res photos on DVD and blu ray.
I would recommend you meeting them and seeing if you get along.0 -
Hi Mellypoos,
Thanks for getting back to me
Paul got back to me over the weekend and we have arranged to meet with him on the 27th October to view and discuss his work.
I'm really quite excited now!
I don't really like having my photo taken and really don't want to spend loads of time away from my guests on the day so will be glad to meet with him and discuss the day and my fears of the lens! lol
What package did you go for? When/where is your big day x0
