Woolwich Opinions please

Hi,

I'm applying for a shared ownership mortgage with Woolwich and would like to know if someone has had any experience with them.

Which are the turnarounds?

Are they specially picky about something?

Any advice will be much appreciated!

Thanks!

  • Having read no-end of horror stories about Woolwich, my experience of them (via our broker) has been good. They weren't especially quick, but they weren't especially slow either.
  • I'm going through a broker as well.

Just a bit worried because of timings and the sourcce of my deposit (it is partially gifted from my boyfriend), I hope they accept this...

Our deposit was gifted from parents, and as per most lenders they just asked for a written declaration that the 'giftors' would have no legal interest in the title to the property and that the 'giftees' were not required to pay back any portion of the gift.
  • Then that should not be a problem,
If we are not married, do you know if he is still considered as spouse?
  • Fairly slow, in our case they gave the go-ahead on the survey prior to full underwriting so just when we thought it was 'in the bag' they came up with another list of things they needed. Impossible to speak to someone on the phone (Indian call centre).

Offer eventually came through in the wrong names with more money than we'd asked for (!) which was fun. Offer resent twice and STILL wrong.

A nightmare to get sorted because there didn't seem to be the right button on the computer for 'offer too big'. Being told over the phone by the Indian call centre 'don't worry Mr X, we'll send the revised offer to you in the next 72 hours, and it should be with you in the next week' isn't great when you're completing the next day.

Got there in the end after lots of kicking and screaming.

I have a mortgage with Woolwich obtained through a broker and i am happy with it. I have had no problems at all. However I can't comment on shared ownership mortgages.
