The last sting of a dying wasp... But I beat em...here's how!

Hi all,
Don't know about you, but them blighters...end of season wasps are really getting on my nerves.
The weather is very pleasant here now, so I leave the back door open. But I have been like the great hunter the last few days, a tea towel, whack, no, they came back. A fly swat...no, they dodged it. Wasp killer spray, yuck, the smell around the kitchen is worse than the wasps.
So, I remembered something (probably from here)...
I got three small flattish containers, they are actually tin foil little holders for the likes of dips etc. filled them with a mixture of the old marmalade lurking in the fridge that is awful! Plus water and a good glug of sugar. Placed them at the end of the patio.
I came home from work tonight to see lots of the b*ggers drowning in the syrup, and some enjoying it. Voila, not a wasp near the kitchen.
Am I pleased? You bet!
Hope the weather is good where you are too.

Thanks so much for posting this, every morning there are at least a couple of the beasts on my car, I park under a tree so I think the sap is attracting them.
I have now filled two small tubs with a jam, sugar and water mixture and put at the end of the drive, hopefully tomorrow will be less wasp-y!
(Maybe I should also wash my car to get rid of the sap, but that requires effort and stuff, so I've heard!)0 -
I use a jar, fill it with sugar and water, cover it with a bit of paper - greaseproof or whatever, put a hole in the middle of the paper - maybe an inch in diameter...they fly in, swig the sugar water and drown.. You can also use a squash or pop bottle.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

I did something similar to get rid of ants. I traced them back to their nest, then left an old tin of syrup that only had a little left in it, on it's side by the nest.
Result, no more ants in the kitchen.0
