It is so crazy that children have toy gadgets worth over £100. There are some fantastic educational games for tablets but I wouldn't dream of buying one just for my children - they can use mine from time to time. Its more important IMO that children spend time outside, running around playing, or reading these strange things called "books"!

I got a TV in my bedroom for my 13th birthday - but I didn't spend every evening watching it, television was still mainly a family thing downstairs. If I had spent every evening closed in my own bedroom, my parents would have been asking questions about what I was doing

Andrew (4) doesn't have any of the listed items in his bedroom. He does have an X-box console that is for his sole use, but it's downstairs connected to the family TV (and is used with our help). We do intend to get him an iPad this year but that will be for use as an assisted communication aid.

MSE: many of the benefits of a helpful family, without disadvantages like having to compete for the tv remote

  • i do agree that children should be educated on how to use technology but there is alot of parents that dont supervise their children properly and have no idea just what they are accessing which is very worrying there is also massive worries about cyber bulling especially within "social networking" sites. IMO sites like fb are great when used properly but these are children and they rarely use them in the way that was intended.... as for snapchat, instagram ect these should be banned! years ago if you got bullied at school home was the place you went to get away from it or vice versa now theres no escape!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • My 9 1/2 year old has a DS and a camera.

Though I will shortly be surprising her with an iPad mini :-) She spends a lot of time in hospital and I think it would be nice to treat her with something she can use there.
