First Time Buyer

Hello,

My husband and I have been saving for a few years and are now ready to put a deposit on a house.

We both done lots of research online but there are a few things which we just don't know the answer to. We were hoping that somebody here may be able to help.

We are looking at buying our first home in a completely new area. My husband has been told that he can continue in his current job working from home. I know that that is not an option for me - I will have to find a new job. I am well educated and have experience so I'm hoping I will be able to find a new job quite easily.

My questions are -

When applying for a mortgage, will the bank take into account my current salary or will the fact that I will not be working here when we move be taken into account?

Also, do the bank contact your current workplace when you apply for a mortgage? I haven't told them I'm thinking of leaving yet and don't want them to find out through a surprise phone call from the bank.

Thank you in advance for any help :)

You will need to declare to the lender that you will not have a job after the move, so it will be taken into account.

The bank may ask for an employer's reference, yes.

The bank wont tell your employer you are leaving, but wont count your income if they think you are.

it's a tricky one if you do not work for the kind of business where you can get a transfer.
