Selling ad space on a website

Hi everyone
I've recently set up a website for my business. It's very much in it's infancy at the moment, however, I've got an ambition to grow it to an extent that I can earn through selling advertising space on it.
2 questions for those who already do this:
How many visitors / unique visitors do you get?
How much do you make through selling the ad space?
I know there's going to be a lot of varying factors, but I'm just curious to get an idea of what others make from this.

Depends on the site. I have 27 sites. Some have 40,000 click troughs, others have 1,000. It depends where you are aiming it and what your sites about.

I assume you mean via an agency or more likely "Adsense" ? You get a little, normally less than the cost of your hosting with the first. You can either sign up to an affiliate system, or target it by selling it to Google (Adsense). They, using the cookies of users tailor the ad the user see's. subject to your through put, you can make up to £3-400 a year, with sell-on rules.

I am not going to tell you what I make, I do have a customer who I pay $200-250 every month. If you think you are going to do this and earn big bucks, t will take you a year before money comes in.0 -
It all depends if you are selling direct or using something like adsense.
The most important thing is how many views you get on your site.
Then you have to decided how to charge for the advertising, CPC, CPM, CPL or just charge for a period of time0 -
Thanks for responses. To answer an earlier question, I've not looked into methods of actually selling adspace yet. As I said, I'm only just getting my site up and running, so not thought that far ahead yet.
I was hoping a few people might say something like: my site gets approx x number of visitors a day, and I make £y per month............just to get a flavour of the sort of money people make0 -

I have a few websites that have ads and contextual links.
What normally happens is that other webmasters in your niche approach you and ask if you want to swap links or place something on your site for an agreed monthly/quarterly/yearly fee.

Most folk will do their homework and check with a site like Alexa for traffic stats and ranking. They will normally use a page rank checker for PR and this will determine how much they're willing to offer.
I have seven different businesses at present who have ads/text links and it roughly brings me about £800pa.
# In order to start generating income from advertisers you'll need an aged domain. One which has been registered for at least six months and is established, that's how it works. #Lao Tzu - "Give a man a fish and feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime"
