Help with mortgage and income support when sacked

Hi there

I am about to get the sack due to a bully at work who I can't fight (different story) anyhow, I am worried I am going to lose my home as I won't be able to afford my mortgage and bills. I have been told I would have to wait 26 weeks to be able to claim income support and mortgage help because I would have been dismissed rather than made redundant. I have 2 children and am worried sick. Any advice would be great x

How old are the children and are you a single parent as IS is only payable if you have a child under 5 and are a single parent or carer.

Otherwise it will be JSA which could well be sanctioned if you are sacked. If you are being bullied though why are you the one facing the sack?

Help with mortgage is only if you get income based JSA or IS and is usually paid after 13 weeks
Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

sounds an horrendous situation to be in. Are you absolutely certain you've done everything poss to sort out the work problem - getting sacked and possibly losing your house seems a very drastic alternative.

I can't offer any help but just want to wish you well and hope you can get things sorted without too much trauma.
  • Hi there and thank you for your responses. Firstly my children are 7 and 5. I will be looking for another job straightaway so maybe I should try and claim jsa. Just worries that knowing I was sacked rather than being redundant it would affect the time that I was helped to 26 weeks and its that fact that is filling me with dread cause in that time I would not be able to cope with everything and would have nothing incoming. No benefits or wages. I wonder if I could swap from working tax credits to child tax credits without having to wait or the whole lot would be affected.

I work for a solicitors and my boss has since being made up to a partner become obsessed with being a **** to everyone and unfortunately when I stuck up for myself my life has since become unbearable there. But there is no proof and it is my word against his and if I stand any chance of getting a new job really don't want a tribunal hanging over my head
