small wedding

Options
So me and OH eventually got engaged on my 30th a few weeks ago (he asked what I wanted, I said a ring so we went to buy it next lol) and now I'm looking at a cheap, small do.

I'm not going Bridezilla in the slightest and have no interest in favours, chair covers, speeches, first dances etc etc - me and OH both do not like being centre of attention, so it just wouldn't be 'us' if you know what I mean.

Basically, we are thinking of doing it at the registry office and then a pub meal afterwards. There would be about 10 people (my family and his).

Is this the done thing? anyone else done similar? x

    Sounds good.

I was at a slightly bigger version of the same thing recently.

We all met up in the pub, went to the registry office and after the ceremony went to a different pub for a meal.

Very nice and relaxed and a great day out.

Congratulations! Sounds good :) We did have a more formal do than what you're suggesting, but still very small: his parents, my parents, a sister each, one aunt, one uncle, one grandparent...so 11 people there in total including the bride and groom. So you definitely won't be the first people ever to have a tiny wedding :D

A relative did this - it was a lovely day.

    Congratulations!

My sister did this . It was a lovely day. The pub gave us a private dining room so even although there was only 9 of us (plus my two children) it felt really special.

I was going to suggest telling the pub in advance that it will be a special occasion rather than just a family meal - most will set an area aside or even give you a separate room as caz says. We've had a similar experience when I booked for a golden wedding anniversary celebratory meal.

It doesn't matter in the slightest. If it's what you want, then it's what you should have.
  • Yes!!! Although we did go upmarket and have tea at the Savoy, then dinner on a boat on the Thames, just us, our Dads, (sadly both Mums had passed away before we met) our witnesses, my eldest Son who was four, and my Niece as she had been staying with us, it was lovely, relaxed and about what we were doing, not what we were expected to do, getting married, not keeping a roomfull of relative (quite literally) strangers happy while they !!!!!ed about us behind our backs, lol!
  • this is exactly how we are going to do it in july next year. there will be 17 of us all together, but 6 of those are me and my partner and our 4 children.
