help! student debt/debt agency worry!

Hi all,
I am new to this site, so please bear with me. In brief, in 2004 I was a student and have a debt of 10,000. Student finance didn't request any payments as I was unemployed, then I was diagnosed with M.S two Years ago. Since 2006, I have never heard or received anything from student finance until yesterday. I received a letter from a debt agency asking me to make contact and payment? I am currently on disability and esa. How did this debt end up with a debt agency? When I never received anything from student finance, and I have no money to pay it. I have no idea what to do or where to start. Can anyone advise? Many Thanks

I set up an online account with my student loan. Maybe you could try this ont heir website? Might give soem info about any contact they have tried to make, interest added, expected payments etc? x

It's appreciated, but I can't log on to their web site, I have no login or details at all, it was over 7 years ago? I don't have any paper work.

You can call them to get login details over the phone - that's what I did as my loan was taken out before they had an online system so I didn't have any login details either.
