Ever sent off for a list of winners?

Anybody ever wrote to a company asking for a full list of winners to a competition they were running?

Quick spur of the moment question this :j:)

  • No, but I also wonder about this and the reasons why people would.

The only reason I can think of for requesting a list is if cheating is suspected.

I will be interested to see the replies to this thread :)

I agree but I would of thought they couldn't give details out to anybody due to data protection?
I mean if I asked for a list of the winners of a competition that I hadn't won then why would I need to see the details of those who have won?

It would probably only give you a list of names so data protection wouldn't be an issue

Usually covered in the T&C's which are agreed to on entry but might only be surname and county, when they are on-line there is often more info given ("good to know" have a pic plus details, some of the mags have name and town, itv give full name and usually town or county and FB/TW winners are often linked/traceable to their homepages.)
  • Some winners' lists are posted up on the ISP website:

Yes, when the winners were not announced I asked to see the list.

Never got back to me on that one.

I can't remember why but I've emailed to ask for winner's lists from Elle and Cosmopolitan before. I think it was when they ran a daily comp one month (I know Cosmo do one all the time now but this was in 2009 before they usually did this). It just contained first name and surname.

I did request it for the Budget/Lonely Planet luxury roadtrip competition because the competition page disappeared shortly after the end date... they never responded
  • I requested a winner's list quite some years ago for a postal competition where I had made a lot of effort to win, and there were multiple prizes which were worth having.
I received a list of about 25 names and full addresses, one of which was my name and address! I thought this looks good, so I contacted promoter to say I hadn't received any prize. I had a very apologetic letter to say that I hadn't won anything, and the list they had sent me was a list of people who had asked for a winner's list! As a gesture of goodwill they sent me to consolation prizes (designer jackets)
