Problems with Leeds BS

My boyfriend and I had an offer accepted on a house back in May and got our mortgage in principle with Leeds as they were doing a really good deal. We are first time buyers and although it seemed quite straightforward at the beginning we have come across a number of stumbling blocks:
- Leeds initially asking for 3 months of payslips, then 2 weeks later 6 months, then finally 12 months
- they got very confused about some of my bf's payslips because some months were higher than others... finally we got them to understand that that was because of his bonus
- They sent a mortgage offer to our solicitors (not us!) for a completely different house. It was also for a different client of theirs
- Second mortgage offer was sent a week later, for another house! Again, not the one we were buying.
- Last week they realised my bf had £1000 car loan outstanding and said that would have to be paid off and confirmation sent to them. 10 weeks after our initial application this was the first time this was mentioned.
- Today we have been told that they can't accept the confirmation that the loan had been repaid because it was sent directly to them by the loan co (Black Horse) and not by us.
Is it just more or is all this completely farcical?? We are putting down a £23,000 deposit, which is 20% of the cost of the house... We just feel like they are doing their best to find an excuse not to give us the money.
The vendors are getting very impatient as this has been going on for months now. They have intimated that if it goes on much longer they will pull out of the sale.
Does anyone have any suggestions about how to progress? What we should do about Leeds? We have made a complaint with their head office but that's not speeding up our application.
Any advice gratefully received!

We've actually applied through a broker, sorry I forgot to mention that. He said he's never had a case like it0

In which case he's probably not used Leeds before - pretty much typical (although the wrong house offers are a new one on me !!).Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

For us they were okay right up until the day of the money transfer (and our moving day) when at 12.00pm they requested additional information. Even getting it to them within the hour meant the monies didn't get transferred that day as it was too late. This was a Friday, so it had to wait until Monday. Not impressed by that.LBM July 2006. I'd be furious Vicki!
Just had word that Leeds have also sent my bf's car loan payment confirmation to the estate agent by mistake... At least now they know what we're up against and can advise the vendor that we're not just dragging our heels0
