Mortgage on unregistered property

Hi, I've been told that you can't get a mortgage on a property that isn't registered with the Land Registry. Does anyone know if this is correct please? Thanks

    Yes. Registration would have to take place during the conveyance. Lender would insist on it.

    So you should be able to get a mortgage and what kingstreet is referring to is that in doing so it will trigger first registration of the property.

    Whilst the vast majority of residential properties are registered a number remain unregistered but if you own the property already then it is simply a case of proving ownership via the deeds and then applying for registration once the mortgage is granted.
