Fake 'Tracked' label warning

Just as a heads up.
I received 2 parcels this morning, one was a genuine signed for and the other had a fakie 'tracked' label applied to it.
My postman tells me that Royal Mail are clamping down on the fake 'Tracked' labels. He tells me they are starting to contact sellers who use these from their return addresses printed on the packets and those without a printed return address will have the parcels opened to obtain it.
As this will possibly result in the destruction and loss of the parcel you may find that it will actually start to encourage lost in post claims rather than discourage them by using the fake labels.
Personally I think they are laughable, and the temptation to leave pos feedback along the lines of 'Received quickly, not sure what the fake tracking label was all about' is huge, however, I shall resist.

Unless the "fake" tracking label was very clearly trying to misrepresent that the item was being tracked by RM I would be very surprised if RM were opening peoples mail. In fact, even if the label was obviously trying to impersonate a genuine RM label I doubt they should/would be opening them...
...anyway, not sure why anyone would bother with a fake label rather than just sticking on a real recorded label, but sending it as standard 1st/2nd class especially if the package was small enough to stick in a post box!0 -
That's exactly the issue, the label does pretend to be an official rm one complete with Barcode.
These stickers can be bought on eBay for a few quid a roll. Sellers think they are being clever with them but they will come unstuck.0 -
I have fake barcode tracking on my parcels, it forms part of the printed self adhesive address labels though and is not a separate stick on label. It looks just like the barcodes you get on amazon parcels. I don't think royal mail will find it a problem. I'm surprised that people would pay for them instead of just printing their own.0

I use the RM online postage and if i need a recorded letter/parcel sent i just print the correct priced label, stick on parcel along with a red recorded delivery sticker and sometimes i will go to PO to get it checked and a receipt and other times i will just stick in post box. i had one go missing that i just posted in post box and thought i could not claim without PO receipt, but i sent off the claim form with a printout of the reciept from online postage and the bottom hald of the RD sticker and the claim was accepted, so may not be fake just a stcker that has not been checked at PO. you can get these stickers free. i have several rolls of them0

I am very much aware of what a genuine tracking label looks like and this wasn't one.. ..
It seems eBay have also clamped down on this as well though this seller seems to think he's found a way around it.
Phone playing up so can't do links at present but item number 3007545945280 -

Why in earth is that seller risking a very good TRS account with that listing, are they mad?
personally I don't care at all if sellers want to use fake tracking labels, I might if I were in a very bad mood drop them a star for communication on the basis they a calling me a scammer. I probably wouldn't even bother doing that and just not notice the label.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. This is one 'fake' label:
This is same sellers company I think where they show the labels (on a computer now so can link)

I did a google search and actually found a thread from here where this has been discussed before:

yup,those are used a lot
if its true about RM following up on these
Im looking at it from 2 sides
they want sellers to pay for legit tracked services or the (fake)tracked labels are slowing down the sorting
I note they ensure they dont follow the RM 2 letter,9 number & country code barcode standard0
