Annoying debt

This is my first thread so be nice,
I have been paying of an old energy bill for a year now at £10 a month that was agreed with the company, but every few months I get a new debt collector trying to get the full amount from me.
I have called the provider and they say that they will deal with it and to leave it with them and they will recall the debt, this does not happen.
I pay every month without fail and the amount has come down £100 so the amount the debt collectors want is wrong?.
What do I do about this as no one seems to be listening.
I am sure this will be affecting my credit rating which is poor anyway.
I am trying to build my credit up and am being refused left right and center, due to a DRO which will clear in 2 years time.
Please help it is starting to worry me now.
Thanks for reading:(:(:(:(

  • Do you mean (your post isn't very clear) that you already have debts you are paying off over the next two years, but are also trying to get new loans at the same time?

  • Say to the DCA that you are paying the original creditor and have no intention of paying the same bill twice; any further letters mark 'return to sender', in that way the DCA has to pay a fee for the letter being returned. If you want to improve your credit, there are some pre-paid cards on the market where acceptance is guaranteed and goes some way to improve your credit rating. Might be worth considering, but if you have a DRO then it will be years before you are likely to get any kind of credit.
  • I am not really over concerned about the credit rating its the pain in the bum debt collectors that keep sending me final demands on a debt that I am paying off! what do i do about the energy company not doing anything about this????
  • sorry if i'm not clear on what i'm asking help for...
What do i do about the debt collectors?
Will it ruin any chance of ever being in a position to have a mortgage with this debt going to DC every month?

Could you afford to pay more and get the debt settled quicker.

Your credit is trashed for years. I wouldn't even think about a mortgage for a long time.

Being sent to new debt collectors should not trigger anything newer on your credit reports.

The debt with the energy company is likely to be registered, probably as a default from around a year ago. Even if the debt is passed to new debt collectors then they are not allowed to mark a later default to the original one.

If i was you rather than call the energy company I would write to them and ask them to confirm they are still happy for you to repay the debt to them and to confirm they haven't assigned the debt to anyone else. And then I would probably state that you have been contacted by numerous debt collectors and that if they are happy with the repayment arrangement can they recall the debt from the debt collectors so that they stop harrassing you.

How much is the debt? how long will it take you to pay off at £10/month?
