I love some of the comments on the video
. It is rather bulky and shame it doesn't fold in half. Once you get over the slight shock I guess it's a good idea for those wanting to play 3DS games but who's budget won't stretch to a 3DS, 3DS games are great and sometimes contain extras if on both 3DS and DS platforms, like Harvest Moon The Tale Of Two Towns 3DS had extra content that wasn't in the DS realise.

It's a great idea but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. I don't know anyone with a 3DS who actually has 3D switched on. Not having it fold reduces costs but makes it completely impractical in my opinion.0

It's actually one of the worst ideas Nintendo have had in a while - and god knows that makes it worse than the Wii U. Firstly the design is very poor considering the target market - children who it has been urged very strongly by various studies not to use the 3DS due to concern over damage to the eyes. It's big, thus none too comfortable for the average child's hands & from my perspective would need to be played at an unnatural angle given the bottom screen is a touch screen. (either requiring it to be on a tabletop or at an angle which may prove painful in the long term)
Second, and again this pertains to design - both screens are exposed, thus are likely to suffer damage significantly easier than they have been on all consoles in the DS range so far. Think about it, part of the genius of the DS design was that it was a clamshell, thus protecting the screens when not in use from the "demands" of life. I can see numerous complaints very quickly of screen damage as a result of things being dropped on them, things being pressed into them etc. (that's not to say the DS screens were immune to all damage - i.e. falling!)
Third is a simple thing here, it's designed to be an "entry level" version of the 3DS, now I know there's differing games and suchlike, but if you are concerned about the cost of a 3DS there's a much simpler option - pre-owned. A pre-owned 3DS is less than £100 today, or around about £10 cheaper than this. The secondary factor is that if you're also concerned about 3DS alongside the cost factor there's a significantly cheaper solution - a pre-owned DSi console is less than £45 & is supported by thousands of titles. (that then leaves it up to parents to instil some logic into children - "you can't use that game as it's for a different console")
Then there's the logistics, handhelds are such that you really ought to be able to put them in your pocket any time anywhere - unless you're the Big Show you're not fitting that in your pocket with any sense of ease!
Poor showing from Nintendo who are looking less and less like they're aware of whats going on at the minute - handhelds were the last area where they were in command without doubt. Now they're only in command thanks to Sony's lack of software support for Vita!Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0 -
What about the games that require you to close the case eg: professor layton games.0

How big is this?
I found the 3ds a little cramped to use especially when you were playing a game that required liberal use of the shoulder buttons, this despite me having small girly hands.
I agree this should be cheaper, but will it impact the cost of the other two versions? Probably not imo.
In terms of pointlessness, nothing will ever come close to the stripped down Wii that Nintendo released last year...0
