Mixed messages regarding stamp duty?

Hi all,
We are due to complete our new build purchase at the beginning of Nov. I have just been reading some information from our solicitors, and in their leaflet they state that 'it is a legal requirement of mortgage lenders that stamp duty is paid on the day of completion'.
Now I'm a little confused as I have read here and on many other sites that you have 30 days from completion to pay stamp duty. I've also scoured our Nationwide T's and C's and cannot find any mention of this legal requirement?
Has anyone else heard of such a thing and if not, am I within my rights to push back on the solicitor to pay the Stamp Duty in the month of November?

The 30 days is if you complete the house purchase transaction yourself. Not an easy task if you've never done it before. As you have employed the services of a solicitor you'll need to abide by their payment terms.:footie:

If you read the CML Handbook, which is the guide solicitors use for their work for mortgage lenders, it tells them that where a mortgage is required, they must have cleared funds, including stamp duty, prior to completion.
