Congratulations NME,
Hope you haven't lost the cork screw and make sure the fridge is in a live socket to keep the beer cool.

Richard - Thats all part of the fun and mystique of being skint....you save on electricity bills, and you get to have more fun than those with the lights on!!!!! There has to be some benefits....
Now - what do you think about this? I have boxes of tut in my lounge that I didnt throw away for 7 years in the old house. things like photos, kids drawings, stuff that was my grandparents thats worthless. What would you do? bin it or keep it in the loft only to appear in the next loft?0 -

NME,
When it comes to some things I have no shame or conscience whatsoever, as has been pointed out on a number of occasions. However, with things like that I just can't bring myself to do it, put them in the false roof and move them again later.
We met 30 yrs ago last December and we've saved every single card that we'd sent each other, cards to and from the children, their paintings, needlework, emotional little notes, school exercise books, the whole bl***y works. There's some 20-30 boxes (big boxes) and after moving twice in recent months, guess where they are? Back in the false roof of course; I've no logical or rational explanation why.

I say definitely keep it in the loft. You can't put a value on memories, even if the items have no actual re-sale value. My mum's still got lots of my childhood things including pictures I painted, the first thing I ever knitted for her (a bobble hatNoMoreExcuses wrote: »I have boxes of tut in my lounge that I didnt throw away for 7 years in the old house. things like photos, kids drawings, stuff that was my grandparents thats worthless. ) & the hospital band that was around my wrist when I was born. I was a premature baby, & you could barely get that thing around my thumb now.
I was born with the cord around my neck, & because I was so small I took ages to learn to walk - she's got an inkblot picture of my feet & hands, & has a note of the day I took my first steps & said my first words. She thinks it's funny given my start in life that I grew up to love words so much & adore writing songs & poetry.
I've got EVERY diary I've written from the age of about 8 (started off with the little pocket ones, & now I can barely contain myself in an A4 one sometimes
). A few years ago I read one of my childhood ones & was amazed at some of the things that were so important to me at that time - you might remember being a child, but as the years pass you forget so much of what made you the child you were. Some of it made me quite tearful, but far more made me laugh & I'm so glad I've still got them. Maybe I'll publish them one day.

I moved from Sunderland to Notts 7 years ago and there are still unopened boxes here. Wouldn't part with any of it though. My kids will have a right laugh when I'm goneBR 18 Oct 2006 Discharged 16 April 2007 :T0
