Are these letting agency tenant fees illegal?
So from what I gather, tenancy fees are illegal in Scotland - i.e. any mandatory fee above rent and deposit when moving in.
Is that correct?
If so, I've seen a couple of ads from Your Move, stating fees may be payable for setting up the tenancy, etc. and on their website, it states there is a "Tenancy Set-up Fee" of £300!!!

Is this even legal?

I'm amazed that the law isn't being enforced more proactively but yes, "any service or administration fee or charge other than rent is now expressly prohibited by statute as an extra charge to tenants in Scotland." Some agencies are trying different wording on a monthly basis, but since last December, it is illegal. If you really want the property, haggle it out, but I wouldn't use one of those outfits.0

Thats very interesting Colino ... where did you get this information and do you know of any cases where a tenant has won the case? I will google it but thought this may be quicker
