The curious tale of the Xbox and the wireless adapter

Once upon a time, there was a girl with an Xbox. She loved her PS4 dearly, but her poor PS4 had gone in for repairs, and in the meantime her brother had gotten her an Xbox 360. It was the beginning of a beautiful relationship, however....
....long story short, I can't seem to get my wireless adapter to connect to my router. I've tried the usual route, and manually assigning an IP etc. and nothing seems to work. I have a feeling that it has something to do with the router model itself, but I still hold some hope that I can get it to connect. I can't set it up to accept the console MAC address either, because the router just doesn't work that way.
Please join me as I wallow in temporary-frustration (not self-pity - I have a bloomin' Xbox!).

Nevermind, sorted! Apparently it only works when someone else does the exact same thing, despite my doing it for ages.

You have a ps4?!0

my 360 is also a beach when it comes to trying to connect to the router lol. its a very common problem
I got so frustrated in the end, I bought a cable to hook it direct to the router.
They say you only live once. If you live like I do, once is enough. :beer:0 -

I was dreading having to do that as my either does and the wire is just horribly 'present' all the time, so it was a real pleasure having it connect. It's not going to randomly cut out on me, is it? And all of that just to discover that I need a gold account to use my Netflix and lovefilm accounts! Flippin' Microsoft.0 -
How far apart are your router and wireless adapter? Also is there any significant interference nearby? You'll probably find that a microwave is a real killer for WiFi.
An Ethernet cable would likely be the best experience, but try it for a bit and see how you get on. If there are no walls and no microwaves it should be fine.
And I'm sure this will start a flame war, but I agree the 360 is better than the ps3.0 -

Grazie! The wireless is still holding strong, and there is nowt more than a floor between the two.
As for your comparison - I reckon the Xbox is more stable and possibly more powerful in terms of hardware, but I was extremely disappointed by microsoft's money-grabbing scheme, whereas when I got my ps3 it was just download apps and go, and nothing in between. But I think that the play station has a great range of games to offer along with the ease of use, so they're both decent consoles IMO.0
