    Savvy_Sue's advice is spot on.

When I interview people, first impressions count. It could be a cleaners job, but a cleaner in my eyes could be a future MD.

Whether it be female or male, I believe a suit is a must. If I saw someone came to me with 95% of what I were looking for, but were not very smart and the second person with 90%, but in a suit. The latter would get it.

My attitude has always been that if, having to attend the most important day for that person on a day, they could not be as smart and set the correct impression possible, what would their work be like once settled in?

How about if it was IDS turning up for your interview in a 10k suit but with a pack of lies on his CV. Would he get the job due to his smart appearence or would you report him and ensure he serves a prison sentence?

  • Update: Well, I wore a smart blouse and black trousers for the interview and they must have been happy with my attire, as well as my skills as I got offered the job! I am chuffed to bits as it was only the 2nd application I had done since deciding I wanted to move jobs, my first interview in 6 years and the job I applied for involves a complete change of career direction!

I cannot profess to be at all expert at interviews, but the first question they asked me was "What do you know about (insert company name)?" I had done my research and was able to quote some facts and figures. Had I not done this, I would have fallen at the first hurdle.

Also, giving examples as to how the skills I had gained in my current role could be applied to the job I was applying for was also useful. I had given this a lot of thought ahead of the interview.

Good luck to all those job hunting - it is not all doom and gloom out there!
  • Well done! And good luck in your new career :D

Very well done. What did you tell the old job about having time off?
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.
  • I rescheduled the interview outside of my current working hours. I just couldn't have pulled a sickie, I wasn't comfortable with that at all.

As already suggested, smart trousers and blouse is appropriate. One point I would mention is check your shoes out. I interview alot, and I notice if interviewees have scuffed, worn down heels. Also, don't have oodles of cleavage on show!

    Good luck with the interview.

if a male is interviewing you ignore this advice, trust me

You really think women get jobs if they have their boobs on display?
