Torn leather sofa - repair

Hi,
One of my dogs has finally managed to put their claw through the leather in my sofa. I'd like to repair it as the tear is getting bigger now.
I'm handy with a needle and thread, and don't mind too much what it looks like as long as it's vaguely the same colour.
Just wondered if anyone had any suggestions as to where to look or what to do. The tear is a bit jagged and about 3 inches long.
Unfortunately the cushions are stitched in place so I can't just turn it over
thanks in advance

I was thinking that you might have to patch it with an elbow patch, but then i found this site which seems to have everything which you might need, including advice!
