Why do Solicitors have to make things so difficult?

And be so arrogant as to not even acknowledge emails, calls etc.

We are supposed to exchange today - complete on Friday..... our solicitor is driving us

Apologies..... I needed a rant.

And I don't even feel any better for it :(

A good solicitor is worth their weight in gold.

We thought using a proper solicitor (and paying for it!) and not just a conveyancing factory would help smooth things along but it hasn't :(

Solicitor will contact you when they have something to say not before.

I know you are right. It's just so frustrating.

    Thank you for saying this!

I work for a firm of solicitors (not the conveyancing department) and so many of our clients call because they're put out at not having heard from us. A lot of the time it's simply because there are no developments!

There's no point in us writing to people saying "there is no news" nor do we have the time :p

I understand what you both are saying.

However, last correspondance from him on Friday said that exchange would be Tuesday (today) it's now almost 3.30..... and we've heard nothing from him.

Am I really being unreasonable to expect even a short one liner giving us an update?

I work for a professional firm also and I know that my clients would go nuts if I behaved in the way he has. We are Accountants, not Solicitors btw.

Clients would soon complain if your firm moved onto a chargeable time basis rather than fixed fee for conveyancing!

Im of the opinion that solicitors or anyone should give a time frame, then get in touch by the end of that time frame - even if its just to say no update as yet. I try to do that where possible.

But if your due to exchange today then i would give them until around 4.30pm... i know its hard but its not uncommon for it to happen at the end of the day.

I used a licensed conveyancer who works attached to a Solicitors practice. She is competitively price anyway, but when anyone asks me for a recommendation I always say if there's very little money in it use her. All other local people who use her sing her praises too. She is just so quick and competent!

Mortgage is my only debt - Original mortgage - January 2008 = £88,400, March 2014 = £47,000 Chipping away slowly! Now saving to move.
