I came across A Kind of Dying by Frederic Lindsay free on Kindle today. Looks like a gripping crime thriller.
Men vanish all the time; often because that's what they've chosen to do. So when he's sent to investigate a disappearance, Inspector Jim Meldrum begins to ask himself why the Chief Constable and so many of his colleagues are taking an interest in what appears to be a routine investigation. Wealthy John Bellman lived a quiet life out of the public eye. What makes his disappearance so important?
An unexpected call takes Meldrum to Oslo where a Norwegian policeman appears to have evidence that Bellman was connected to one of the most dangerous neo-Nazi groups to emerge since the fall of the Berlin wall.
In London, Bellman's daughter demands her own price of Meldrum to help in the search. From there, Meldrum's dogged pursuit of the truth will take him deep into a New England forest where the elements of Bellman's past come into violent collision. For the final unravelling, however, he has to look elsewhere. If he is to uncover the roots of a spreading evil Jim Meldrum must come home. To Edinburgh.
'A Kind of Dying' is a haunting and beautifully written crime novel that will captivate fans of Ian Rankin, Peter James, and Peter Robinson.
This riveting, through-provoking and darkly compelling thriller, which cunningly subverts the reader's expectations at every twist and turn confirms Lindsay's status as 'one of the most potent voices in contemporary Scottish fiction' (The Herald).
'Intelligent, entertaining, gripping and well-written' Ian Rankin0 -

The Housewife Assassin's Handbook
Murder. Suspense. Sex. And some handy household tips.
This eBook is FREE right now. It is the first of a series of five books. You will find it on Amazon.co.uk
Loved it! These reviews quite aptly sum up my experience with the book as well:
"My my God what a brilliant book, I couldn't put it down, their are some good twice and turns in the book, the way she writes she make you feel like your the person in the book."
"The author keeps the balance perfectly between the humdrum existence of the working mum, the job as a hired assassin and the vulnerability of a mother trying to do her best in trying circumstances and a woman coming to terms with her lost love and betrayal.Highly recommended for the bitter-sweet and tenderly written story."0 -
Blood, Sweat and Tea: Real Life Adventures in an Inner-city Ambulance
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Blood-Sweat-Tea-Adventures-ebook/dp/B002SDGLTG/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1380878477&sr=1-1&keywords=blood+sweat+and+tea
A beautifully written insight into the stresses, strains and successes of working for the London Ambulance service.
Is there anyone who hasn't wondered about the state of the occupant of an ambulance, screaming along with its sirens on and blue lights flashing? Have you? And have you wondered about the other people inside the ambulance, maybe fighting to save the patient's life? Or have you considered that the ambulance may be another 'maternataxi' ordered by a woman who can't be bothered to book a real cab and who then complains she can't smoke on the way to hospital? And that the medical technician inside might just be desperate to get back home from a busy shift, to have a cup of tea and catch up with his blog?
Meet Tom Reynolds. Tom is an Emergency Medical Technician who works for the London Ambulance Service in East London. He has kept a blog of his daily working life since 2003 and his award-winning writing is, by turn, moving, cynical, funny, heart-rending and compassionate. It is never less than compelling.
From the tragic to the hilarious, from the heartwarming to the terrifying, the stories Tom tells give a fascinating - and at times alarming - picture of life in inner-city Britain, and the people who are paid to mop up after it.0 -
This Twentysomething Life: A sort-of prequel to This Thirtysomething Life
http://www.amazon.co.uk/This-Twentysomething-Life-sort--ebook/dp/B00BPWAJK8/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1380878563&sr=1-1&keywords=this+twentysomething+life
A brilliantly funny, heartwarming short story: essential reading for all fans of This Thirtysomething Life and the perfect introduction to Harry and Emily for newcomers. Before Harry and Emily were thirtysomethings on the cusp of parenthood, they were twentysomethings on the brink of marriage. Set during the build up to their wedding, this is the story of why Harry started a diary and how - in typical Harry fashion - he almost didn't make it down the aisle. Just as hilarious and heartwarming as This Thirtysomething Life, this short story is told with unflinching honesty and laugh-out-loud accuracy and gives an insight into just-about-to-be-married madness in all its messy, human, uplifting, feel-good glory. Though you may never look at your father-in-law in quite the same way again . . .0 -

Barney Thomson — awkward, diffident, Glasgow barber — lives a life of desperate mediocrity. Shunned at work and at home, unable to break out of a twenty-year rut, each dull day blends seamlessly into the next.
However, there is no life so tedious that it cannot be spiced up by inadvertent murder, a deranged psychopath, and a freezer full of neatly packaged meat.
Barney Thomson's uninteresting life is about to go from 0 to 60 in five seconds, as he enters the grotesque and comically absurd world of the serial killer…0 -
Diary of a Teenage Superhero

A teenager wakes up in a seedy hotel room. He has no memory of his name or his past. A man lies dying on the floor next to him. Someone starts pounding at the door.
He runs. He is chased.
While staying one step ahead of his pursuers, he begins to assemble the pieces of his life. His name is Axel. He is the victim of an amazing experiment – he has been given incredible powers – and he is not alone.
An organisation known only as The Agency has also modified other teenagers. Brodie is a master of the martial arts. Ebony can transmute one substance into another. Dan controls metals with his mind. Chad creates fire and ice from nothing.
They have been handed incredible powers to help the human race in times of crisis – and one of those times is now.
A terrorist organisation known as Typhoid has acquired Pegasus – a highly advanced missile, invisible to radar and conventional defence systems. They intend to fire it at an American city. Only this bunch of untried, untested teenage superheroes stands any chance of stopping the missile before it strikes its target.
Diary of a Teenage Superhero is a high octane thriller showing what happens when conventional teenagers with everyday problems are given powers beyond this world.
They have to learn to work together, but as Axel draws closer to his newfound friends, he remembers the words of the dying man in the hotel room.
Trust no-one.
He knows he can’t trust The Agency.
Can he even trust his newfound friends?0 -
