I owe barclaycard £ 5,171. 51
I had been making min payments and since i have split up with my partner i can not afford to make any payments. My balance was 4,200 with a limit of 4,500 but they keep adding more and more interest.
I'm at university but i do not have a student loan.
I have tried to discuss my situation with Barclay but since i have no funds at the moment they have sent me a final demand.
I have called them this morning but i got cut off after 15 min!
I do know what to do?
Can anyone advise me please.

Best contact the citizens advice see if they can intervene can you give them token payments of even £1 a month?
((((((((hugs))))))))))))Isn't the knowledge that comes from experience more valuable than the knowledge that doesn't?0 -
Have you checked with your University if they have any emergency funds for students in your situation. I know mine did, but you would need to go and see your students union.
I hope it all goes well.Current debt - £16,300
Debt at worst 17/03/2011 - £18,067.62:eek::eek::ANot going anywhere else, ever again :A0 -
Is this the same as the access to learning fund because i think thats finished for this year, well it has at the university i have
But its worth a shot, give your university a call, it may be different to mine0 -
I'm not sure if it's the same (I graduated about 4 years ago) but I'm sure we had a fund in place to help student with rent and living costs. It wouldn't solve the problem but it would help for a bit.Current debt - £16,300

The obvious question is -why not? You can't expect to get through university without using the money that's available to you and you won't get any help from hardship funds unless you've taken out all loans possible. Is there a reason for this that you haven't mentioned?0 -
Do they give you hardship funds at uni for credit card payments?
Do not dispair, it is not the end of the world. A credit card is not a priority debt as long as you keep up with your rent/morgage
Go to the cab and they will help you fill out an expenditure sheet with incomings/outgoings and whatevers left you will use it to pay your creditors. The cab will negotiate on your behalf. Honestly don't get stressed, it can be sorted.
ps if theres nothing left then still don't worry0 -
Hi
Just another person saying go to the CAB or try the student welfare office. They will be able to help you and try to set something up with you. Firstly, do send a token payemnt, even if just £1 to show willing to pay them back - ignoring it will make it worse obviously. It must be stressful and I hope that you are able to sort this out. Please do come back and update us with what you do.

Thank you every one.
Well first of all i have rang cab and will be going next week. My university will not help me because I am on an access course (year 0 of my degree)
This is also why i have not got a student loan.
My main worry is this debt will prevent me getting a student loan in the future.
Thank you everyone you have all been very helpful0 -
As far as I am aware it shouldn't impact it, I have just completed my student loan form and cant recall them asking about debts0
-
I had developed debts while at uni and this had no impact on my ability to get my student loan.
Good luck with it all.
