There was one particular thread over the weekend which was just disgaceful with one particular troll, and even despite BG's commenting in there to keep it on topic he/she persisted. I guess we are thinking of the same thread Luckyone.

  • I use the word 'troll' to mean people who consistently try and wind people up, often joining a forum with the sole intention of trolling and disappearing quite quickly.
So for the above reasons I didn't see the weekend winder-upper as a troll.
He may be a pain in the rear-end sometimes but he has over 5,000 posts - if he were a true troll I'm sure the MSE team would have PPR'd him by now.

Perhaps they had a bad day?.

The behaviour of the two people on that thread, at that moment was the behaviour of a troll.

But it does not matter what name we give them, no one should reply to posts like that, because it just adds fuel that they can then reply to people in the same way.

If you don't talk to them then they can't do it

Two people? I only remember one. Unless we're not talking about the same thread.

Sorry Luckyone, people can reply to what they want on an open forum. Sometimes people don't even realise they are feeding a troll, some people are unaware of what the term 'troll' actually means (hence the description by MSE), some people are unaware that a user has been declared a troll because they don't frequent MSE often enough to be privy to these types of conversations etc ...

Are we talking about the board guide thread? If so, what upset you?

Luckyone - re your comment on the 1st post (now also deleted). I wasn't intending to argue at all. I have a different opinion, and it's just that - an opinion. It's an open forum with thousands of users. People aren't going to agree all the time. You shouldn't feel forced into deleting your thoughts.

At a quick glance most of their posts are in the "arms" where it is pretty hard to get PPR'd even if you choose to post pointless rubbish all the time.
