Evening Wedding Reception - wear a tie??

We are going to a wedding evening reception at the end of this month. Quite a posh "do" in a stately home type venue. I work with the lady who is getting married but I don't know the husband to be, and my husband won't know anyone there (indeed, I will only know the bride and a few work friends). Do you think he would need to wear a tie? Or just a nice shirt and trousers? Im not even sure what I am wearing yet, but women can get a way with being a bit dressier. But I don't want my husband to feel (or look!) out of place. Its going to be hard enough when he know absolutely no one there anyway!! Can anyone advise what they would do?

Does the invite state anything? Black Tie or Smart Casual?

I would double check with work colleagues to see if their other halves are wearing ties.

Me I would be turning up in Trousers and smart open knecked shirt no tie, unless they had specifically stated Black Tie.
    Cheers

  • If it was my partner I'd suggest taking a tie along and seeing what others were doing before either putting it on or leaving it in his pocket!

    Have a lovely time

    Hi,

What about a suit with an open shirt. Think black suit & white shirt. Casual, sexy but still smart!

I'd wear a suit and tie and take the tie off as and when your partner feels comfortable.
