i've seen a few like that.

seems some councils just paint cycle lanes when they cant be bothered to fix they side of the roads.

They turn them in to cycle lanes to move the cars out of the potholes

That particular shot looks quite familiar to me. That wasn't taken at one end of Holborn Viaduct by any chance, was it? :o:)

From the damage done to the drain, I'd say this one's immediately adjacent to a bus stop (Holborn Viaduct w/b toward Chancery Lane, maybe.) Not a good place for a cycle lane in any case!

It's worth noting that not all of us cyclists use the cycle lanes anyway, and this is one of the reasons. Why should motorists get given all the smooth bits of road and leave us with the chaff?
(Also: With my speed and performance being comparable to a 60cc moped and my momentum not far off that of a small family car, it's FAR safer - Both for myself and everyone around me - For me to use the carriageway. :o  )

LOL... its like the council want to spend money for the cyclists but then they want to please the anti cyclists at the same time

If that is the case then they should be reported via http://www.fillthathole.org.uk/
This can also be used when reporting pot holes in the road generally IIRC.
  • This is an odd one - I walk alongside it on my way to work in Norwich every day.

There's no explanation of which side of the white line is the cycle lane, but I'm assuming it's the narrower one!

From the signing it's a shared use path. Presumably the white line is to deter cyclists/peds from going too close to the edge of the road!
