Wow, I never really thought getting a mortgage would be so stressful!
Long story cut short, tried to get a mortgage with HSBC - went to see 3 of their mortgage advisors and they all said I could borrow £95000, which is about 40% LTV.
Made an application, sent in the relevant documents, and 8 days later got a call from their underwriter saying that she couldn't offer me that amount because my salary didn't reflect the amount I could borrow....
I though "hmmmm....?" But they all said, including the mortgage calculators that I could borrow that amount! So basically they wasted my time and now my credit record has been tarnished. Grrr. I give them credit (mind the pun) that they did get back to me fast, as I need to get things moving before I lose my property.
Anyways, after I received that verdict I went to Halifax and made an application. Everything seemed fine - they didn't ask for many details compared to HSBC. They've now asked for just my ID to be sent to them; is this correct? They didn't ask for my wage slips, details to show where my money's from and all the rest that I expected. Does that mean I got a good grade score?
I'm just slightly worried that I might get rejected again, particularly because they asked for a valuation fee prior to offer being made...

Buying and selling houses certainly is stressful.
With the number of variables involved within an individual application. There's no way of predicting the outcome.
If you apply yourself, worth making thorough enquiries as the mortgage market has yet to fully settle down post the credit boom years.0 -
Ah, cheers for reply. Worst thing is is that I was looking forward to a stress-free bank holiday weekend.
Always happens hehe.
Ya, the lovely lady on the phone just asked for ID, which I thought was strange. I did reply and ask if that's all she needed and whether I need to show my wage slips, but she said the computer only asked for ID..... O_o
Oh wells. Fingers crossed it goes well.0
