steak n onion suet pud in pressure cooker? help!

Hi all! Cor its a long time since I posted here! As I type I have the above in my pressure cooker using a recipe that came with it, but I have a couple of questions if anyone can help? The recipe is somewhat vague...

It calls for a 10 minute steam before bringing to pressure and cooking for 24 mins. I noticed while i was steaming the pressure knob was up - is this normal for steaming in a pressure cooker?
And my last question is with regards to cooking suet puddings generally in a p/c, is the trivet needed? the recipe says to put it straight into 1+3/4 pints of boiling water, but no mention of the trivet. to be on the safe side i have used the trivet and put the bowl in the steaming basket, but for future reference is this needed? Can i place the bowl straight onto boiling water on the bottom of the pan? :o

Many thanks in advance

  • MERLIN it's perfectly normal for the pressure valve to be raised, it means the temperature is high enough in the cooker. I always use the trivet for puddings, it takes away the fear that a basin directly on the bottom of the cooker will get rattled about and crack, hope that helps, Cheers Lyn x.

Many thanks! that is good to know :) and yes I was concerned about the bowl sitting on the bottom of the pan.

    The pud was delicious!

    Thanks again
