Calculating brutto from netto

Options
Hi.
I hope this is the right place to ask that kind of question. I need to figure out how to calculate tax and NI from my netto earnings from last 4 years. Is there any way to do that? If somebody could give me formula how to work that out or present any other convenient way I would be very grateful.

Best Regards
Peter

don't understand the question - your gross income is what is you earned pre tax, surely you know how much your salary is (or the total invoices raised if self employed)

if you actually mean the other way around (gross to net: brutto > netto)- then read these guides

Given your use of non-English terms is your question actually about earnings in the UK?

If so then you could use the link below to put in different gross salary figures, and the relevant tax codes and any other figures such as pension rates and student loan repayments, until you get the actual net salary figure that matches the figures you have. You can go back as far as the 2005/6 tax year.

However, what would be much easier would be to use the P60s that you will have been given and which you should always keep.

I dont think OP has been paid under HMRC ruling as Brutto and Netto are I think German or Danish expressions.
  • Thank you for all replies.
I'm sorry that I have used words brutto and netto - It had to be very confusing for you , I was convinced those are english words.
Also, I should be more specific when describing my problem:
I know how much money I have received in last 4 years after paying tax and NI. It's tax and NI I need to figure out. I was working in UK for different companies and I cannot find all of my p45 and p60

For example in years 2012/2013 I have earned 12,466.59. Knowing that, my next step would be to calculate NI which is 12% for class 1 and 20% tax. Now I need to figure out correct equation.
    something like x - 12% (and) 20%= 12,466.59,
so somehow I need to take 12% and 20% from that x and then solve the equation.

There is a tax free allowance to be considered though...
You need to know the tax codes for those jobs. Otherwise it will be plain guess work.

    for 2012-13

if your gross was Y and you made no pension contributions and your income was evenly spread over the year

    then tax would be (Y-8105) x 0.2
    NI would be (Y-7584) x .12

    so take home would be

    Y - 0.2xY + 8105x0.2 - 0.12xY +7584 x 0.12

    re-arranging

    Y (1-0.32) + 1,621+ 909.84 = 12,466

    so Y = 9,9935/0.68 = 14,610 i.e your gross pay

    so tax is 1,301
    NI is 843
  • Thank you CLAPTON. Thank you very much, you have saved my skin.
I can figure it myself now.

Thanks for all replies and for your time.I wish you all good day.

But bear in mind that CLAPTON's calculation (which I assume is correct) only works if you were on the standard tax code of 810L for 2012-3, and will need to be adjusted for earlier years to take into account either the standard or your own tax codes for those years and the relevant figures for NI - I'm not entirely sure what the 7584 in the NI part of the calculation is so I can't say what those figures should be.
