Help with a knitting project?

I'm knitting an over the shoulder bag just now and the pattern calls for me to insert thin plastic between 2 panels at the top and bottom to stabilise the bag. Thing is I have no idea what type of plastic to use, has anyone done similar and if so what did you use?

I have used the plastic canvas that you get for cross stitch for that sort of thing. the 14 count is about the right thickness. :)

I have bought thin chopping mats from either Home Bargains or B&M. They measure 30x38cm and are easy to cut. Sorry, can't remember the price, but wouldn't be as expensive as plastic canvas.

    Just found these.
